The first compile in days, and the new crew on deck

Days of work had never been compiled. When it finally was, it found one error, in a test. The new crew art is in the game, and every debug log now says what kind of run produced it.

The first compile in days

Everything written since the second station, the third station and the shark work had never been compiled. Today it was, and it found exactly one error, in a test: a PlayMode test called a helper that had never been written. After adding it, and fixing one stale test, EditMode passes 387 of 387 and PlayMode passes 46 of 47.

The stale test was a check that the chart's levels are numbered contiguously. The submarine is deliberately off the chart's numbering, so the test now skips it. The code was right and the assertion was out of date.

The one PlayMode failure is a music test: a 0.09 second beep that should stop within 0.4 seconds. It fails the same way every time. The code reads correctly, so the likely cause is that a headless test run has no audio device. That is a guess and has not been checked.

The new crew is in the game

The art library was rebuilt, 493 sprites with 522 painted and no off-palette pixels, and a dev build was made at 236 MB with no errors. The topside ship was captured and zoomed in. The new realistic crew show with faces and hair, and the captain's beard, cap and epaulette, at the same size on deck as before. The blue arctic diver sprites were built in the same pass.

That check matters because the new figures are drawn at twice the pixel density of the old ones. They still sit at the same on-screen size and position as the crew they replace.

Logs that say what kind of run they came from

Logs from a play session, a test run and a capture used to look alike. Every log session now opens with its date, time, a run id and the kind of run: play, test run or capture; editor, dev build or release build; headless or not. Every line also carries its wall-clock time. A new test checks that the header is there.

The dev build shows a "Development Build" mark, so no clean screenshots were saved. The third station and the second station's changes have not yet been played by a person.
