One number, not forty

The shaft changed depth again, and the depth scale built the day before meant it was one number to edit. The timing check on the quiet run barely moved.

Changing the depth a second time

The shaft depth changed again today, and this time nothing else needed retuning.

Yesterday's depth scale is the reason. Fauna bands, light, water colour, event ranges and sound were all authored against the original depths. They are rescaled onto whatever the real shaft is, so the new depth went in as a single value in the run tuning and everything downstream followed.

The check that it held is the balance simulator's quiet-profile time:

today28.3

The test that asserts it moved from 23 to 28. The original shaft is about 29, so today's pacing sits close to the one the content was designed for, which is what the scale was for. 84 of 84 editor-mode tests pass.

Text that quoted a number

The depth had also leaked into the writing. The first-deploy radio call and a site blurb stated a depth outright, which meant each tuning change was also a copy edit. Those lines now describe the trip without quoting a figure.
