2026-09-28 · MITTENS THE KITTENS

Simon, seen on his own body

The new Molly and Simon art went into the game, ten sheets turned out to have been cut by the wrong rules, and Simon was seen in a real two-player run. At game size he reads as a striped Mittens.

The art from the previous day finally went into the game and was seen running.

Ten sheets cut by the wrong rules

Unity picked up all 208 new and changed images by itself on launch. But ten sheets had been sliced by Unity's automatic slicing instead of by their own frame lists: Molly's and Simon's action, hurt, respawn and box sheets, Molly's walking sheet, and two enemies. An automatic slicer looks at pixels, not at the frames you drew, and it ignores the pivots.

The project's own slicing tool fixed them. It scanned 1,252 sheets and recut 130, with none failing, and all 75 new sheets now have exactly the frames their lists say. The sprite list was rebuilt: 974 animations, 2,353 frames, 207 sheets. For each of the two cats, the game now finds its own frame for 156 of Mittens' 215. The other 59 are his berserk and ride animations, which were never drawn for them, so those still show Mittens repainted.

Seen in play

Two players on two real pads, in a sewer stage. Simon spawned on his own grey tabby sheet next to Mittens. Both were then soaked to Sodden: their white goes grey, their eyes widen, and Simon's outline still reads against the sewer. No errors in the console.

Molly was not seen. She is still locked in that save, so the game kept Mittens in her seat. Her sheets are in and her frames are found; she just has not been on screen.

How it looks, honestly: at this size Simon reads as a grey striped Mittens, and his broader head is hard to see beside Mittens'. Whether that is enough difference is a decision still to be made.
