2026-09-27 · MITTENS THE KITTENS

Molly and Simon, all the way

Molly and Simon now have every sheet Mittens has, drawn on their own bodies, and two more physics queries that could not see triggers are fixed. A squash frame that made Simon shrink on impact got caught by a check.

On 24 September Molly and Simon had one sheet each. They now have all 21 that Mittens has: walking and running, every action and its clip sheets, and every jump, fall, landing and bounce, on their own bodies and in their grey tabby coats. That is 40 new sheets. Mittens' own files were checked afterwards and are unchanged.

Fitting a broader head

Simon's cell did not have to be widened, but his broader head touched the edge of the frame in seven poses. In those poses only, his head sits two pixels further left. In one frame, the wedged-in-the-cat-flap pose, the flap cut a sliver off his cheek, so there his head sits where Mittens' does.

His landing, stomp and high-bounce squash frames had been drawn on Mittens' smaller body. The air sheet's own check caught him shrinking on impact, a 36% swing in size where 32% is the limit. His squash bodies are now drawn a row or two deeper and a pixel broader, and the swing is 31%.

Every new sheet passes the palette check, and the lighting check wherever Mittens' own frame passes it. Mittens' air sheet has never passed the lighting check on any frame, so the new air sheets are held to the palette check alone.

Where there is no frame, there is a fallback

The game now draws a co-op cat from her own sheet when she has her own version of a frame. When she does not, she gets Mittens' frame recoloured, as before. This applies to the coats that do not have sheets of their own yet, and to the ride and berserk frames. Simon is a tabby in that fallback too.

The sewer's soak needed one new colour table, because on a dressed sheet the grey of the coat and the grey of the bib are the same colours. A new tool builds the table from the undressed drawings. Checked outside the game, the new soak gives exactly the same pixels as the old one on all 936 frame and soak-step pairs.

Three poses stay on Mittens' shape under their coats, on purpose: the roll, the spin of the air jump, and the sitting and lying poses. Those drawings have the head baked in and cannot be reshaped by the tool.

Two more queries that could not see triggers

The project's physics setting hides triggers from every query, which is why the claw had never hit a trigger prop. Two more systems had the same blind spot.

  • The stomp's second search found nothing. It asks the physics engine for trigger shapes, so the answer was always empty. It now uses the same one-query switch the claw got, and leaves every enemy to the first search, which reads their live position. No stage behaves differently today, because nothing else stompable sits on an enemy layer. The search is simply no longer blind.
  • A thrown enemy flew through trigger props. A thrown mouse passed straight through every claw target it was meant to hit. It now sees them. It skips its thrower's own hurtbox, which would otherwise knock the rider off his own ride, and any target that refuses a shot, exactly as the hairball does.

The code check passes with no errors and no warnings. Neither fix, and none of the new sheets, has been seen in play yet.
